Federation Square
Melbourne, Australia
1997

The project for Federation Square opposite Flinders Street Station at the heart of Melbourne is the practice’s response and submission entry to an International Competition organised by the State of Victoria, Australia. The submission is a giant glass roof which gently curves over the full width of the site in a single span. A dome centrally positioned but set back from the main road determines its distinctive profile. The whole building would glow at night illuminating Melbourne’s skyline by the Yarra River to become a beacon and symbol for the City.
