House at Poste Lafayette
Mauritius
1987-1988

The house is on a sea facing plot of land at Poste Lafayette which faces the trade winds head on. The overall width of the site is only 12m wide. A courtyard plan was proposed and allows living spaces to open up onto a protected exterior space. It is sheltered behind the double storey living room and master bedroom block which acts as a wind barrier.  The swimming pool is placed in the middle of the courtyard reflecting the columns in the water.

The narrow space between the boundary wall and the living spaces of the building was bridged with a pergola to control light and provide security whilst permitting use as external seating or shaded planting.
