Terraced Housing at Pointe d'Esny
Mauritius
1998

Four apartments facing the sea at Pointe d’Esny are designed in the respect of the beauty of the site and natural surroundings. The design intent is to turn what could have been a longitudinal apartment block into a building which has a minimal impact on the coastline seen from the sea. The apartments are sited well recessed from the beach and the existing trees are preserved.  They are designed with a natural timber structure and a thatched roof. Later, this was replaced by shingles. The building weathers to a maintenance free patina that blends harmoniously into the existing landscape.
